The Team

We are delighted to work with the amazing individuals who make up our team. Meet them below:

Martin Block

Martin Block

Martin Block is a Professor in Kinesiology in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia where he teaches courses in adapted physical education. He is the author of over 70 peer reviewed articles, 14 chapters in books, and 5 books on adapted physical education and motor development including A Teachers' Guide to Including Students with Disabilities in General Physical Education (3rd edition) and Developmental and Adapted Physical Activity Assessment.

Dr. Block also has been a consultant with Special Olympics, Inc., since 1988, where he was the primary author of the Motor Activities Training Program (MATP), a sports program for athletes with severe intellectual disabilities.

Finally, Dr. Block serves as the Coordinator of the Adapted Physical Education Module for the European Masters Program in Adapted Physical Activity, and he serves as a consultant for the new Adapted Physical Research Center at Beijing Sport University in China.

Barbara Fried

Barbara J. Fried

Barbara Fried is Chairman Emeritus of Innisfree Incorporated and a past and present president and member of a number of non-profit organizations. She also is Chairman of Fried Companies, Inc., a real estate development company.

She holds a B.A. from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from its law school and an M.A. from the University of Virginia.

Rick Jeffrey

Rick Jeffrey

Rick Jeffrey, of Richmond, joined the staff of Special Olympics Virginia in 1986. He currently serves as President and is a member of the Special Olympics Virginia Board of Directors. Prior to assuming the role of President, Mr. Jeffrey served as Director of the Central Section, Director of Sports and Competition, Program Director, and Vice President Program.

He has served on many national and international committees for Special Olympics including Basketball Rules, World Games, Equalizing Competition, Professional Development, the North American Leadership Council and Extended Quota/Paralympics. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the National Association of Special Olympics Professionals. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Virginia Amateur Sports.

Mr. Jeffrey is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and received a Master's in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.

David Luedeka

David Luedeka

David Luedeka DPT, CSCS, is a practicing physical therapist and strength and conditioning specialist. David attended the University of Florida, D'youville College, and the Medical College of Virginia @ VCU. He holds a B.S., M.S., and DPT degrees in physical therapy and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist credentialed through the national strength and conditioning Association. For almost 20 years he owned and operated an outpatient physical therapy clinic in Sarasota Florida. He helped many patients including weekend warriors and professional athletes overcome injuries and return to sport.

Many consider David an innovator in the field of physical therapy as he is always thinking "outside the box" when treating patients. Learning about and exploring new treatment modalities make him a dynamic problem solving practitioner who achieves patient success in many cases that have been historically unsolvable. David's professional focus has recently changed highlighting this outside of the box thinking. He has been involved in research and is currently publishing a paper regarding a new treatment for those with rotator cuff disease.

Rorie Hutter

Rorie Hutter

Rorie has served as the Executive Director of Innisfree Village since June 2015. Innisfree is a lifesharing community with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, located in Crozet, VA. Prior to coming to Innisfree, Rorie worked for 15 years at the Virginia Institute of Autism in Charlottesville, in a variety of roles including Director of Education and Director of Training and Consultation. Rorie holds a BA in psychology from the University of Virginia, an MSEd in special education from Old Dominion University, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
